A Chitungwiza man, Lot Gwesu, has appeared before the Harare Magistrate’s Court charged with armed robbery after he allegedly participated in the abduction and robbery of a man outside an Avondale bar.
He was remanded in custody to August 14, 2025.
According to the State, on July 11, 2025, Gwesu and his accomplices, one of them armed with a pistol, intercepted the complainant at Position Sports Bar in Avondale.
They allegedly forced him to drive to a secluded area along Chinhoyi Road, where he was robbed of two iPhones, a jacket, and a wallet containing US$4,400. His hands and feet were tied with cable ties.
The robbers later fled in a white Mercedes Benz after deflating one of the vehicle’s tyres in Nyabira.
Police later arrested Gwesu and recovered the getaway car and an iPhone 14.
The total value of stolen items was US$5,840, with US$1,200 worth recovered.
