A local man has appeared in court accused of murdering a 12-year-old child.
Panashe Mukura, 31, of Eastview, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts facing a charge of murder. He was remanded in custody to July 15.
The court heard that on July 5, 2025, the mother of the deceased left the 12-year-old child in the care of his maternal grandfather.
That night, Mukura reportedly arrived and requested to take the child to his mother’s residence, claiming he would look after him and safeguard the house while the mother was away.
During the night, Mukura allegedly woke up, took a pair of scissors, and stabbed the child in the neck. He then mutilated the child’s private parts, leaving them hanging.
It is further alleged that Mukura used a comb to poke the child in the nose, causing him to bleed.
He then dragged the body outside and partially buried it in the garden behind the house.
The crime was discovered the following morning, July 6, when Mukura went to the child’s grandfather and claimed that the boy had gone missing.
The grandfather, along with neighbours, accompanied Mukura to the child’s mother’s house. Upon arrival, they noticed bloodstains at the doorstep and on Mukura’s clothes.
They began searching the property and found the child’s partially buried body in the garden.
A police report was filed, leading to Mukura’s arrest.
