Prevail Group, a property development firm, has secured a deal with the Zimbabwean government to provide 50,000 fully serviced residential stands across the country.
This initiative aims to benefit Zimbabwean war veterans, marking a major step in a housing empowerment scheme.
This project, described as a significant move to improve the welfare of ex-combatants, is part of broader government efforts to address housing shortages and uplift the livelihoods of those who participated in the liberation struggle.
Paul Tungwarara, chairman of Prevail Group, a rapidly expanding developer with operations in South Africa and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), confirmed that preparations for the project were already underway.
Tungwarara stated, "Prevail Group is prepared to execute this project with speed and efficiency. We possess the expertise, resources, and international experience required to deliver high-quality, serviced stands, complete with water, roads, and electricity infrastructure."
The company, which has been expanding its presence throughout Southern Africa and the Middle East, brings extensive experience in large-scale developments, making it a crucial partner in the government’s push to provide decent housing for war veterans.
Minister of Local Government and Public Works Daniel Garwe emphasized that the housing scheme fulfills a government pledge to war veterans. Garwe remarked,
"Our liberation heroes deserve dignity and security. This initiative aligns with President Mnangagwa’s vision of ensuring no one is left behind in national development. We are collaborating closely with stakeholders to guarantee the success of this project."
War Veterans Minister Monica Mavhunga added that the housing program forms part of a broader package of support measures for ex-combatants. Over the years, the government has introduced various initiatives, including pension enhancements, agricultural support schemes, and educational assistance for veterans’ children. Mavhunga stated, "We are not merely distributing land; we are constructing sustainable communities where war veterans and their families can prosper."
