Government has said that the air ambulance service is being rolled out across the country with a new base expected in Victoria Falls in the first half of the year.

Speaking during the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair 2025 in Bulawayo Helidrive spokesperson, Dr Rudo Gumbo said Helidrive is being rolled out into a proper nationwide service with sites for future bases including ‎Masvingo, Mutare, Kariba, and Buffalo Range. ‎

The service, which was established by the Zimbabwean government with a delivery of 18 Rostec helicopters in ‎‎2023 opened its first ‎bases in 2024 in Harare and  Bulawayo.‎

The service has come under fire on social media for being elitist and not being accessible to ordinary Zimbabweans.

Dr Gumbo said a national call center is also being set up to facilitate ‎access to the service.‎

Since the launch of operations, Helidrive has now served over 450 patients, including ‎‎150 neonatal patients aged under 28 days.‎
