Woman takes hubby to court to bar him from parenting child he had with former maid

A Harare woman wants her husband to stop communicating with their former maid although the two have a child together.

Kanikisi Ziwuki took Thompson Ziwuki to the Harare Civil Court saying the existence of the child with the maid is causing her unhappiness.

“He says the child he had with our former maid wants to see other children and he is still talking to her (ex-lover), that’s where my problem is,” she said.

Kanikisi alleged that Thompson was violent and threatening to ill treat the children he has with her.

“He assaults and threatened that he would not send our children to school.

Thompson said his wife's hatred towards the child is unreasonable punishment for an innocent soul.

“My wife said she never wanted to see the evidence of my prostitution, She does not want to see the child anywhere close, even at the gate," he said.

He told the court that there was a day he knelt down, begging his wife to let he child to come and be with the siblings at home but she refused. All l want is for the child to mix and interact with my other children," he said.

He said Kanikisi' attitude is prejudicing the child of due paternal support.

“All my other children are boarding school for their education and they are doing well, but this child had to attend school in the rural areas,” he said.

Thompson says he wants to help his child with school work, but Kanikisi still blocks his efforts to be a father.

“I am teaching extra lessons these days. This child passed four subjects and l wanted to take her for Mathematics and Science, which l am good at,” he said.

“On threatening not to pay fees, she is lying. How can l do that to my children?” he asked.

He told the court that he was not against her being granted the peace order but wanted his child to belong in the family, not to be an outcast.

Magistrate Tamara Chibindi  did not grant Kanikisi' plea to bar Thompson from being a father to his daughter.

The magistrate did rule against Thompson's violent streak and ordered him not to assault, insult or harass the applicant.
