Five individuals accused of stealing a car after attacking it with stones have appeared in court. Wayne Musanyera , 22, Ibrahim Banda, 25, Tichatyei Banda, 33, Nyasha Chidhakwa, 24, and Ahashi Mutetwa, 26, were remanded in custody at the Harare Magistrates' Courts on robbery charges.

The State alleges that on September 11, at around 11:00 PM, the complainant was driving a Toyota Plats along Delport Road with a friend. Musanyera, along with an accomplice still at large, had allegedly set up an ambush along the road near the Mabvuku turn-off.

They reportedly rolled stones in front of the car, forcing the driver to stop. Musanyera is then alleged to have started throwing stones at the vehicle, prompting Isaac Lloyd, the driver, to flee the scene, leaving behind three friends.

Musanyera allegedly attacked the complainant's friends with stones, stealing a Redmi phone and US$40 from Brighton Tennie. He also forcibly took an iPhone X from Macdonald Kakwela and a Samsung phone from Ephraim Mungere.

Ibrahim Banda then reportedly drove the car away from the scene, later handing it to his accomplices, Tichatyei Banda, Joe, and Mutetwa. The car was eventually abandoned near Domboramwari, close to Balancing Rocks in Epworth, where it was later recovered.

Following extensive investigations, detectives from CID VTS Harare arrested Joe, who, during questioning, implicated the others, leading to their arrests.

It is further alleged that, during the investigation, the accused led police to one Ronald Chigeza, from whom an iPhone X and a Redmi phone were recovered. Chigeza claimed he had purchased the phones from the accused individuals.

The total value of the stolen property is reported to be US$6,500.
