Former wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, Marry Mubaiwa, who says she is in great pain and her health was deteriorating, has said she yearns to see her children.

In an exclusive interview with the Sunday Times, Mubaiwa (40) said she was penniless and homeless as she currently lives with her parents.

“I am not well at all and I feel that if I had gone out of the country to seek better treatment, I would be better, but the court refused to give me my passport as part of bail conditions. I stay at my parents’ home because I have nothing. I don’t have a house and even a car, so I am under my parents’ care,” said the VP’s ex-wife.

She said she last saw her children — aged between eight and 11 — in 2019 as she has not been allowed to see or speak to them.

“Especially not seeing my children is very painful for me. Sometimes I start having thoughts of committing suicide — and don’t be surprised [if I do] . . . In a couple of days, it will be my daughter’s and my son’s birthdays. I have not spoken to them even over the phone. My lawyers have written to [Chiwenga’s] lawyers many times for me to get access to my children but that has not helped,” Mubaiwa said.

Mubaiwa suffers from lymphoedema, a disease that causes swelling of the limbs.

Recently, she had her arm amputated after a court forbade her from travelling to South Africa for medical treatment.

A Harare magistrate last week, Mubaiwa – who has three children with the Vice President – was acquitted on charges of assaulting her maid, Delight Munyoro.

She will, however, appear in court at the end of the month on a charge of attempted murder.

In April, she was convicted of marriage fraud and sentenced to a year in jail, which was reduced to a fine of ZWL$60000 on the grounds of ill health.

She is also facing charges of money laundering and violating exchange control laws and is is still standing trial.
