Kombi conductor jailed one year for stealing from road accident victim

A kombi conductor, Terrence Mavheneke was slapped 12 months imprisonment for robbing an accident victim of her phone under the guise of trying to assist victims after a multi-car collision along Seke Road.

Mavheneke picked up the now deceased, Christabella Makwanya’s phone while trying to assist victims of the accident, and later sold it to two men, Nigel Kwaramba and Godwin Chindima.

The two men are reported to have brought the phone to the deceased’s relative for it to be reset, where they were subsequently arrested by the police.

Epworth Magistrate, Esther Mutezo sentenced Mavheneke to 12 months in prison, while five months were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar crime.

The accident claimed seven lives including Christabella Makwanya who was subject to phone theft, and several injured, with four of the deceased having died while seeking medical attention the following day.
