Epworth man accused of raping own daughter repeatedly

Michael Mashiri

A man, 48, of Epworth, appeared before magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa at the Harare Magistrate's Courts charged with rape.

The court, through prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti, heard that in June in the morning the complainant was at home together with her mother and the accused.

Her mother went out to collect money leaving the accused with the complainant.

As soon as the complainant's mother left the house, the father allegedly lured the complainant to his bedroom.

When she entered, he quickly closed the door and produced a knife. He ordered the complainant to remove all her clothes and to lie on the bed naked.

The court was informed that he threatened to kill her if she did not follow his orders. He went on to remove his trousers and raped her.

After the act, the accused gave the complainant a pill and ordered her to swallow it.

After about a week, the accused reportedly summoned the complainant to his bedroom after realising that they were alone.

He then ordered her to remove all her clothes and to get on to the bed. She complied to all the orders she was given and he raped her.

The accused threatened to kill her if she disclosed the issue to anyone. It is alleged that this took place on several occasions.

The accused was ordered to appear in court on August 14, 2024.
