A 35-year-old Kwekwe man’s felon mind that led him to rape three minors has landed him in trouble after Gokwe magistrate Lungile Ncube sentenced him to 34 years in prison for three counts of rape.

Emmanuel Mazarire, whose wife had left the matrimonial home following a misunderstanding, raped his five-year-old step daughter and two other juveniles from the neighbourhood aged nine and 12.

After raping his step-daughter, Mazarire went to a house in the same neighbourhood where he raped two sisters aged 9 and 12.

Magistrate Ncube suspended 10 years of the sentence on condition of good behaviour, leaving Mazarire with an effective 24-year jail term.

Prosecuting, Tinashe Wazvaremhaka told the court that on 28 April, 2022 around 8pm, Mazarire had a misunderstanding with the juvenile’s’ mother, who was his wife.

After a fight ensued, the wife fled and sought refuge at her parents’ house, leaving the child behind.

Mazarire went into the bedroom where the complainant was sleeping and raped her, the court heard.

Later that same night, Mazarire went to a neighbour’s house, where two sisters were sleeping, in company of his friend Agrippa Lyonel Kapuya

When the girls opened their door on hearing a knock, the two men got in with Mazarire rushing to the girls’ bedroom and the 12-year-old girl followed to ask about his motive.

Mazarire reportedly grabbed the girl and forced himself on her. He then went to another bedroom where his accomplice, Kapuya had also raped the nine-year-old. Mazarire then also raped the nine-year-old juvenile while Kapuya watched.

The two ordered the girls not to tell anyone, threatening them with death.

The matter came to light after the mother of the five-year-old juvenile noticed that her child had been sexually abused and she reported the matter to the police. The two sisters also made a police report, leading to the two’s arrest.

Kapuya, however, is yet to be sentenced.
