Harare’s newly-elected councillors on Monday met with senior officials at the Town House to familiarise themselves with council proceedings.
They met with Town Clerk Engineer Hosiah Chisango and acting chamber secretary Warren Chiwawa.
Last week, the councillors elected a mayor and deputy mayor before constituting council committees.
Councillors are positioned into committees depending on their skills set. The committees superintend over the local authority’s operations.
The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works also holds induction training for newly-elected councillors.
Director of Communications and Advocacy in the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, Gabriel Masvora, said government will be rolling out the first induction training for councillors.
“The induction is decentralised as each local authority will do the exercise at their place.
“As for the induction, it is also decentralised but will be led by our directors of Local Government Services. Each director, 10 of them, will do his or her province and come up with a work plan for the councillors in that province in the next 14 days,” he said.
The purpose of the induction workshops is to assist newly-elected councillors to understand their roles and responsibilities.
