A 74-year-old man on Wednesday appeared before the Plumtree Magistrates Courts magistrate Joshua Nembaware facing domestic violence charges after he stabbed his wife with a kitchen knife.

Prosecutor Arnold Mudekunye alleged that on August 23, Elman Tshuma confronted his wife, Wisiwe Gumbo, over her decision to go and vote before cooking and cleaning the yard.

Tshuma pulled a kitchen knife and stabbed Gumbo on the right arm. The matter was reported to the police, leading to his arrest.

Tshuma pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The magistrate remanded him in custody to August 31.
