Woman robbed of US$500 after car chase in Borrowdale

A gang of men robbed a woman when she stopped her car after a chase.

Tawanda Moyo, 38, of Westgate, was before magistrate Dennis Mangosi at the Harare Magistrates' Court accused of robbery.

The State through prosecutor Zororai Nkomo, alleges that, on May 11, 2023, at around 10:05 hours, Marvelous Mucheri was driving a Honda Fit vehicle along Borrowdale road due North.

On approaching St Georges School area, Moyo and his four accomplices still at large also in a Honda Fit vehicle acted as though they intended to overtake Mucheri.

As they were about to overtake her Moyo instructed her to pull off and stop by the side of the road.

Mucheri did not comply and instead tried to get away with the suspects in pursuit.

Mucheri finally stopped near Hellenic School area. Moyo and another suspect went to Mucheri’s car.

Moyo tried to forcibly open the front passenger's door to Mucheri's car at the same time demanding for her mobile handset.

Moyo failed to open the door since it was locked. Mucheri then unlocked the doors prompting the other accused person to open the driver's door.

The other accused then took Mucheri's US$500. The two then ran back to their car but were chased after by one Marvelous Tetena and Denford Makunike who managed to block their car along Churchil road, Gunhill, Harare and Moyo was apprehended.

Mangosi remanded Moyo for another appearance this Friday.
