ConCourt dismisses Mwonzora delimitation report challenge

The Constitutional Court has dismissed an application by MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora seeking to nullify the delimitation report by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.

Mwonzora had prayed to the court that the delimitation report be suspended, a development that would have resulted in the postponement of the 2023 elections.

However, Zec lawyer Tawanda Kanengoni argued that the recent report will not affect Mwonzora as a presidential candidate and the constituencies have remained at 210.

Kanengoni argues the application is baseless as Zec will still have 210 constituencies after delimitation.

“The delimitation will not affect Douglas Mwonzora as a presidential candidate and its election is not localised but it requires a national tally,” Kanengoni argued.

However, the Constitutional Court ruled that Mwonzora had failed to also provide further action and his application was dismissed with no costs.

“No cause of action has been advanced by the application. Accordingly, the application is dismissed with no order as to costs,” the ConCourt ruled.
