Masvingo man rapes, robs pregnant woman

A Masvingo man, who raped and robbed a pregnant woman, has been remanded in custody by regional magistrate Bishard Chineka.

Josphat Shumba of Village 17, Gwanjoma area in Masvingo, allegedly raped the woman around 6pm on December 16, 2022.

The facts of the matter are that Shumba waylaid the woman, who was on her way from a church service with two friends.

Shumba reportedly produced an okapi knife and a catapult and demanded money from the women who fled in different directions.

He caught the pregnant woman, dragged her to a hill and raped her before stealing her Itel cellphone.

He then allegedly threatened to kill her if she disclosed the matter to anyone.

The woman narrated the ordeal to her niece, who accompanied her to the police station to file a report.

The niece also helped her to identify Shumba, who was wearing a facemask when he raped her.

Shumba was arrested on January 3, 2023.
