Habitual thief caged four years

A Chipinge habitual thief with two previous theft convictions has been sentenced to four years in jail by magistrate Alfred Chinembiri.

Tinashe Robert Tauya, 19, of Gaza E suburb in Chipinge is accused of waylaying Prince Mlambo, manhandled him before stealing US$150.

Prosecuting, Isaac Tangwena told the court that the incident happened on March 30, 2023, at Night Club in Gaza O.

In 2020 and 2022, Tauya had theft convictions.

The magistrate suspended six months of the sentence on condition that Tauya restitutes Mlambo the US$150 stolen money.

Tauya followed Mlambo outside the nightclub and manhandled him by the waist, searched his pockets and took away US$150.

Mlambo sustained a cut on his left elbow.

He tracked Tauya and caught up with him at Chipinge Central Business District where he confronted him.
