Three relatives of a 13-year-old Bikita girl allegedly fatally assaulted a neighbour using logs, accusing him of raping the girl.
Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said Blessing Mabika, 25, Kingstone Juro, 30, and Tapiwa Moyo, 30, assaulted Samuel Murapiro, 42, of Muduma Village under Chief Budzi’s area using logs, hoe handles and machetes around 10pm on Saturday last week.
Murapiro sustained fractured legs, bruises and deep cuts on the face, leading to his death.
Insp Dhewa said the trio went to Murapiro’s house and broke the door and confronted him over allegations of raping their sister.
Murapiro tried to escape but the gang caught up with him and assaulted him before dragging him for about 60 metres from his homestead and allegedly continued to assault him using hoe handles.
After noticing that some villagers were observing them, the trio dragged Murapiro to a secluded area.
When people who were at Gedhe-Maranyika Business Centre heard about the matter and went to investigate, the gang had disappeared and Murapiro had already died.
They reported the matter at ZRP Chikuku Police base at around 1am.
Murapiro’s body was taken to Silveira Mission Hospital for post-mortem.
Police arrested Juro and Moyo and are now appealing for information that may lead Mabika’s arrest.
