Zimbabwe Cricket chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani has been appointed Deputy Chairperson of the International Cricket Council (ICC), becoming the first Zimbabwean to hold the position.
Mukuhlani succeeds Imran Khwaja, who has stepped down from the ICC Board. His appointment was announced on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
The veteran cricket administrator is also chairman of the Africa Cricket Association and represents Zimbabwe Cricket on the ICC Board. He currently serves on the ICC Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee and the Nominations Committee, while chairing the HR and Remuneration Committee.
His elevation comes at an important time for African cricket, with Zimbabwe preparing to co-host the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 with South Africa and Namibia. The tournament will mark the return of the men’s World Cup to Africa after 24 years.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah congratulated Mukuhlani on his appointment, saying his experience in cricket administration and understanding of the global game would be valuable to the ICC Board.

“Tavengwa has earned the confidence of his fellow directors, and I look forward to working closely with him to strengthen cricket across our members and create greater opportunities for the game to grow worldwide,” Shah said.
Shah also described Mukuhlani’s appointment as a significant milestone for Zimbabwe, noting the importance of strong leadership as cricket expands globally and prepares for its return to the Olympic Games.
Mukuhlani said he was honoured by the confidence placed in him by his fellow ICC Board directors and looked forward to contributing to the sport’s global development.
“I look forward to supporting our Chairman, Mr Jay Shah, and fellow board directors in advancing our shared priorities and serving the best interests of cricket globally,” he said.
Mukuhlani’s appointment places Zimbabwean cricket administration in a prominent position within the global governing body as the sport prepares for a period of expansion, including its Olympic return and the staging of the 2027 World Cup in Africa.
