AmaZulu are determined to keep striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya at the club despite growing interest in the forward ahead of the January transfer window.
Ngwenya has been one of the biggest stories of the opening weeks of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign, with his goalscoring form making him a key part of AmaZulu’s strong start to the season.
The 23-year-old currently leads the Premiership scoring charts with seven goals, four ahead of his closest challenger, TS Galaxy’s Victor Letsoalo.
His latest goal came on Saturday when he struck in the 37th minute to give AmaZulu a 1-0 victory over Marumo Gallants at the Princess Magogo Stadium.
The goal continued what has been an exceptional run for the Zimbabwe international. Ngwenya had already scored five goals in his first four league matches in August, a run that earned him the Betway Premiership Player of the Month award.

His form has been particularly consistent. Before the Gallants match, Ngwenya had scored in five consecutive league matches, including his goal against Richards Bay that took his league tally to six.
He has also made an impact beyond the league. Before the latest Premiership goal, Ngwenya had scored two goals in the MTN8, taking his overall tally at the time to eight goals for the season.
With his numbers continuing to rise, interest in the Zimbabwean striker has inevitably followed. However, AmaZulu are understood to have no intention of allowing their leading scorer to leave midway through the campaign.
A source at the club told The Citizen that Ngwenya is not available for transfer and indicated that the club’s position is unlikely to change when the January window opens.
“No, that’s not going to happen. He’s not for sale at this stage of the season, and I don’t think the club will listen to offers even in January,” the source said.
“Why would the club sell him now when they also need him? It wouldn’t make sense to cash in at the moment,” the source added.
