Two Bulawayo men have each been sentenced to an effective eight years in prison after attempting an armed robbery at a money transfer shop in Barbourfields.
Teddy Karanjisi (32) and Sambulo Ndlovu (48) were convicted by the Bulawayo Magistrates' Court of attempted armed robbery.
The court heard that on June 7, 2026, the pair targeted Africa Teller Shops in Barbourfields while armed with a Blow P29 9mm pellet gun, an AK-47 CCCP rifle, and a Colombian knife.

Prosecutors said a female employee had stepped outside to dispose of rubbish when the two men attacked her, forced her back into the shop, and ordered everyone inside to lie on the floor at gunpoint as they attempted to steal cash and mobile phones.
The robbery was thwarted when a customer knocked on the door. After being allowed inside, the customer confronted the suspects, wrestled them to the ground and called for help.
Members of the public rushed to the scene and assisted in restraining the pair until police arrived.
Officers recovered the pellet gun, the AK-47-style rifle and the knife allegedly used in the attempted robbery.
The court sentenced both men to an effective eight years' imprisonment.
