Can Nathan Mutasa Break Into Dynamos' Starting XI?

Nathan Mutasa's loan move from Scottland FC to Dynamos could finally provide him with the regular game time he struggled to secure under coach Norman Mapeza.

Mutasa found opportunities limited at Scottland, largely because he plays as an attacking midfielder or winger, positions occupied by the in-form trio of Knowledge Musona, Khama Billiat and Walter Musona. Over the past 11 matches, the trio has been in outstanding form, contributing goals in every game and cementing their places as Mapeza's preferred attacking combination.

Mapeza recently made it clear that he has no intention of altering his first-choice attack.

"The team will remain the same unless there's an injury," Mapeza said.

Although Mutasa was regularly included in the matchday squad, he was never considered a genuine alternative to the established trio. His loan move to Dynamos, despite enjoying substantial winning bonuses at Scottland, could therefore prove to be a blessing in disguise by giving him the opportunity to play regular football.

A similar situation unfolded with Godknows Murwira, who featured in fewer than four matches during the first half of the 2026 season before joining FC Hunters on loan, where he completed his first full 90 minutes of the campaign.

However, breaking into the Dynamos starting XI will be no easy task. The club's current attacking players have been performing exceptionally well, making competition for places intense.

On the wings, Leeroy Mavhunga and Frank Agyemang have been instrumental in Dynamos' attacking success, while Jairos Kasondo has led the line effectively. The trio has been central to the club's impressive scoring run.

Mavhunga has consistently created chances with his pace and dribbling on the flanks, regularly setting up Kasondo or Agyemang to finish.

Agyemang currently tops Dynamos' scoring charts with 11 goals and is locked in the Golden Boot race with Hardrock's Washington Navaya, with both players tied on 11 goals. Kasondo has also enjoyed a productive campaign, scoring six goals to remain among the league's leading scorers.

Despite Mutasa's profile in Zimbabwean football, largely due to his nickname, "Mwana wa Pokello", his arrival has not been warmly received by some Dynamos supporters, who have questioned where he fits into the team and who he is expected to replace.

"This guy should go to Avellion FC in Division Two, not Dynamos. Which position is he going to play? If Perezo is already on the bench, what about him?" said supporter Wellington Bidza.

Another supporter, Michel Prince, was equally critical.

"This is nonsense. Ever since he started playing, he doesn't even have a single goal or assist. Why didn't they take Machope? They are offloading their garbage onto us now," he said.

Mutasa is no stranger to Dynamos. He previously played for the Glamour Boys during the 2016 and 2017 seasons, meaning he understands the expectations and pressure that come with representing the club in front of the demanding Vietnam Stand faithful.

Whether this loan move marks the beginning of a career revival or another difficult spell will depend on Mutasa's ability to force his way into a Dynamos side that is already firing on all cylinders.
