Zimbabwean midfielder Tirivashe Caesar Chirikwawo, 27, has extended his stay in Greece after signing a one-year contract extension with Pyrgos AFC, who compete in Super League 2, the country’s second tier.
Chirikwawo, who can also play as a centre-back and right-back, has helped the club secure two consecutive promotions since joining the Greek football system.
His journey in Greece began in the lower leagues after he was invited for trials through an individual with football contracts on the island of Rhodes.
“I have been playing in Greece for some time now, starting in the lower leagues and slowly climbing up. My first opportunity came through a guy who had contracts on the island of Rhodes, and they invited me for trials. That’s how I started here in Greece,” Chirikwawo said.
He said his continued relationship with Pyrgos AFC was built on trust, respect and shared ambitions.
“I have been with them for some time now and won two consecutive promotions, so there is trust and respect from both parties, and we share the same objective,” he said.
Chirikwawo believes Greek football offers a competitive environment and is becoming an attractive destination for players.
“The level of Greek football is actually very good, and the weather is not that bad here. It is also becoming a big market, with big-name players moving here,” he said.

His new contract runs until June 2027, with the club already preparing for the new campaign.
“My personal target is to get playing time, stay healthy and make the national team cut,” he said.
Chirikwawo said representing Zimbabwe in Greece carried special significance, particularly as more local players begin finding opportunities there.
“Playing here as a Zimbabwean means a lot, considering that there have not been many Zimbabweans who have played here. As of recently, we are now three active players, so it feels good to be part of the list with them,” he said.
He credited Global Sports Academy for facilitating his initial move to Greece, while his latest contract was negotiated through the club executive and his management group.
He urged young Zimbabwean players to remain patient and keep faith in their abilities.
“Be patient in your craft and remember the sun shines for everyone. But always, ‘Pakutanga Mwari,’” he said.
Chirikwawo also hopes to use his growing profile to promote Zimbabwean football talent and attract greater interest from the Greek market.
“They should just expect a good ambassador for the football talent we have in our country and have the Greek market looking into our country as well,” he said.
