Champions Set for National Pool Finals

Zimbabwe's top amateur pool players are set to battle for national honours when the Carling Black Label National Pool Tournament reaches its grand finale in Masvingo on July 11, following the successful conclusion of regional qualifiers that attracted record participation across the country.

The regional qualifiers, held across 31 regions and ending on June 27, drew  support from players, fans and local communities, reflecting the growing popularity of pool and its increasing association with the Carling Black Label brand.

According to Delta Beverages, this year's tournament recorded significant growth in participation, with organisers also noting an improvement in the standard of competition as players displayed greater professionalism, skill and discipline throughout the qualifiers.

"We are proud of the progress we continue to see in the sport. The growth in participation and the elevated level of play reflect the passion and commitment from players across the country. We commend everyone who took part and contributed to making this tournament a success," said Kundayi Mawema, Marketing Manager for the Lagers Business Unit.

A notable feature of this year's competition was the continued rise in women's participation, with the brewer reaffirming its commitment to creating more opportunities for female players as part of efforts to promote inclusivity within the sport.

The national finals will bring together 80 male and female finalists, who will compete for championship honours in their respective categories. The winner will walk away with US$2,500 and a pool table, while the runner-up will receive US$1,500. Third place carries a prize of US$1,000, with fourth place earning US$500.

Delta Corporation General Manager for Corporate Affairs, Patricia Kudzai Murambinda, said the tournament has become more than just a sporting competition, delivering value to communities and supporting the growth of the game.
