After weeks of disappointment, Sabi Gold Mine FC finally found their winning touch, thrashing Shurugwi FC 4-1 at Sabi Gold Mine Arena on Sunday to snap a five-match losing streak.
The victory marked a significant turnaround for the Golden Boys, who had struggled to find consistency since the start of the 2026 campaign.
In a move aimed at boosting team spirit, the club camped overnight at Rockville Lodge on Saturday despite playing at home the following day. Club Organising Secretary Talent Chiponza believes the decision played a key role in the team's improved performance.
"We are beginners in this football industry and we keep on introducing and adapting what is good for the club," said Chiponza.
He said the squad had been missing the camaraderie that comes from spending time together away from training sessions.
"They were lacking team bonding as they were used to only train and depart and then meet for the game. By staying together before the match, they had an opportunity to bond within themselves," he said.
The renewed sense of unity appeared to translate onto the field as Sabi Gold Mine attacked with confidence and intensity, dominating much of the contest.
Chiponza said the club intends to continue with the camping initiative for future matches.
"Yes, it will continue to be done in the next fixtures to come," he said.
