AVM Expands Football Investment Into Women’s Game

Fresh from sealing a 50-50 partnership with Agama F.C., Africa Minerals Venture (AVM) has now shifted its attention to women’s football after extending support to Gweru-based Rise of Hope Academy in the Zimbabwe Women Premier League.

Although papers are yet to be finalized, AVM has already begun bankrolling the club as part of its growing footprint in Zimbabwean football.

AVM administrator Patient Dube said the company’s owner, George, was determined to broaden investment into all areas of the game, including women and junior football.

“Boss George wants to spread his wings to women football. He also has junior football around the region and country,” said Dube.

Dube added that AVM was fully committed to supporting Rise of Hope Academy despite the team’s difficult start to the season.

“George is doing everything for the club, nothing short of a good position,” he said.

Rise of Hope Academy has endured a tough campaign so far after losing all four of its opening matches in the Zimbabwe Women Premier League. However, Dube believes the investment being made into the club will eventually yield positive results.

“We are taking games as they come, but because of the investment being done, we hope to finish in a good position,” he said.

AVM recently made headlines after entering into a 50-50 partnership with Agama F.C., a deal aimed at transforming the Mt Darwin side through financial stability, infrastructure development and improved player welfare. The company cleared outstanding salaries and allowances for players soon after joining the club.

The mining-linked company has increasingly become a notable player in Zimbabwean football circles. Before partnering Agama, AVM had also been linked with involvement at Manica Diamonds, although that relationship reportedly ended amid governance and control disagreements.
