Zvishavane Man Jailed Four Years for Possessing 19kg of Dagga

 

A 53-year-old Zvishavane man has been sentenced to four years in prison after he was convicted of possessing 19.49kg of dagga.

Clever Makwarimba was sentenced by the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court after being arrested during a police operation along the Beitbridge-Masvingo Highway.

The court heard that detectives received information on July 11, 2026, at around 9pm that Makwarimba was carrying illicit drugs near the 81-kilometre peg of the highway.

Acting on the tip-off, police officers went to the area and identified Makwarimba before informing him that they intended to search him.

During a search of his travelling bag and satchel, detectives allegedly found eight large cobs of dagga.

The consignment was weighed and found to total 19.49kg.

Makwarimba was arrested and taken into custody before being brought before the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court.

He was convicted of unlawful possession of cannabis and sentenced to four years’ imprisonment with immediate effect.
