Foreign Nationals Nabbed in USD$1.5m Mining Scam

Zimbabwean authorities have arrested two foreign nationals in connection with an alleged US$1.5 million mining investment fraud. The suspects are being investigated for suspected financial crimes involving foreign investors.

According to police, one of the suspects was arrested on March 14 at Norton Tollgate while travelling in a black Lexus SUV with three other individuals. A search of the vehicle uncovered prepared dagga, and a subsequent search at the suspect's residence in Borrowdale, Harare, led to the recovery of approximately 10 grams of suspected gold nuggets.

Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said investigations are ongoing to verify whether the suspect had the necessary permits to possess the gold. "ZRP arrested two foreign nationals in connection with cases of fraud and externalization of funds in which another foreign investor was allegedly duped of US$1.5 million in a mining investment deal," Nyathi said.
