Zimbabwe Republic Police has launched a manhunt for three suspected drug kingpins accused of running sophisticated drug syndicates across Harare, while using fortified security systems to evade arrest.
In a statement issued on 10 May, police identified the suspects as Nomore “Nomara” Chabata (47), Joymore Chihwai (41), and Leon Mambohaatumwi (35). The trio is alleged to have operated drug bases in Mufakose, Marimba and Mabvuku.
Police say preliminary investigations indicate the suspects were running well-organised operations that relied on heavily secured residential properties to avoid detection.
ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the suspects had turned their homes into high-security compounds designed to resist police raids.
“The suspects were operating from fortified houses fitted with high durawalls, electric fences and CCTV surveillance systems, clearly intended to conceal illegal activities and frustrate law enforcement efforts,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
He added that the properties were also guarded by aggressive dogs, including pit bulls, further complicating police access during operations.

Investigations have also revealed that the suspects allegedly used their bases not only for drug distribution but also for broader criminal networks.
Commissioner Nyathi said the recovery of explosives during investigations raised serious security concerns.
“It is disturbing to note that the recovery of explosives in the contraband shows that the drug lords are linked to crimes such as armed robbery,” he said.
However, police have not yet disclosed where or when the explosives were recovered, stating that further details will be released in due course as investigations continue.
The alleged drug bases were reportedly spread across several high-density suburbs, with Mufakose, Marimba and Mabvuku identified as key operational points.
ZRP has since intensified its search operations and appealed to members of the public for information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
“Anyone with information on the suspects’ whereabouts should contact Police General Headquarters in Harare on 700171-9 or report to the nearest police station,” the police said.
