Chevrons Set for US$1.5m Windfall

Zimbabwe's Chevrons are in line for a nearly US$1.5 million financial windfall after their memorable campaign at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, combining official prize money with a US$1 million pledge from businessman Wicknell Chivayo.

Zimbabwe  takes US$491,538 home  in official prize money from the International Cricket Council (ICC) after a remarkable run that included one of the tournament’s biggest upsets.

The prize distribution was confirmed by the ICC after the conclusion of the tournament, which featured 20 teams competing for a total prize pool of US$11.25 million.

Zimbabwe’s campaign was one of the standout stories of the competition, particularly after they stunned cricket powerhouse Australia national cricket team with a memorable victory that captured global attention. Their performances saw them progress deep into the tournament and finish among the competition’s stronger sides.

According to the ICC, “all teams received a base participation payment of US$225,000, with additional bonuses awarded based on match wins and progress through the stages of the tournament.” Zimbabwe’s final earnings reflect both their match victories and advancement in the competition.

The ICC prize money adds to a US$1 million pledge made by businessman Wicknell Chivayo, who promised the cash incentive after Zimbabwe qualified for the Top Eight of the tournament , pushing the team’s potential total earnings to around US$1.5 million.

However, the pledge came with a caveat: the payout is “subject to approval by the principal,” a reference to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, whose blessing Chivayo has often cited before disbursing his headline-grabbing gifts.

“Whatever the final outcome will be for the Chevrons cricket team, all I know is so far, subject to approval by the principal, I already owe them US$1 million in cash on their return,” Chivayo wrote on X, posting the message as Zimbabwe were being dismantled by India national cricket team.
