A local civil servant, Edwin Bingala, has been ordered by the Harare Civil Court to pay monthly maintenance and full school fees for his child following a successful application by the child's mother, Mendy Bingala.
Mendy Bingala approached the court seeking US$100 per month to cover essential costs, including food, medical expenses, and school fees. She testified that the child’s father had been inconsistent in his support for years.

"He never paid anything. He last paid school fees when the child was in ECD A. I am the one paying for everything," she told the court.
In his response, Edwin Bingala who earns a monthly salary of US$400—expressed a willingness to contribute but highlighted his existing financial burdens. He noted that he had already covered the current term's school fees and is responsible for two other children and his elderly parents.
He acknowledged the shared struggle of government employees, stating, "Financial pressures affect all civil servants. Money is not enough, but we need to take care of the child as parents."
