A bitter fallout between former lovers spilled into the Harare Civil Court today, with each accusing the other of assault, property destruction and intimidation in a relationship that has now ended in a legal battle.
Talman Njanji appeared before the court seeking a protection order against Easter Ngondonga, alleging that she physically assaulted him, destroyed his work equipment and disrupted his business.
Njanji told the court that Ngondonga had made his life unbearable by burning his property, selling some of his work equipment and driving away his customers.
"She takes my property and starts burning it. She even sold my wheelbarrows and chased me out of the house," he said.
He further alleged that Ngondonga chased away his customers by telling them he no longer lived at the property.
"She always chases my customers away, telling them I no longer live there," he said.
Njanji admitted that he had assaulted Ngondonga once but claimed he later left their home after she allegedly threatened to burn him with boiling cooking oil.
"I assaulted her once and moved out of the house because she wanted to burn me with boiling cooking oil," he said.

In response, Ngondonga denied the allegations and accused Njanji of taking household property to the woman he is now living with.
"He is the one taking our property to his new wife, the one he now lives with," she said.
She further alleged that Njanji had planned to rob her with the help of his friends by luring her with a fake job offer.
"He wanted to rob me with his friends by using a fake job offer to lure me," she said.
Ngondonga also told the court that they both verbally abused each other during their disputes.
"We both verbally abuse each other," she said.
She further alleged that Njanji had physically assaulted her before going on to destroy her home in Nyanga.
"He once physically assaulted me and even went on to destroy my home in Nyanga," she said.
After hearing submissions from both parties, the magistrate postponed the matter to Thursday for a ruling.
