Gardener Jailed 12 Months for Kidnapping 8-Year-Old Boy

 

 

A 25-year-old gardener from Headlands has been sentenced to 12 months in prison after being convicted of kidnapping an 8-year-old boy in a broad-daylight incident in Chiendambuya.

Ernest Kapfurutsa, of Plot 40, Wensleydale, appeared before the Rusape Magistrates’ Court facing charges of kidnapping a minor. He was convicted and handed a 12-month custodial sentence, with no portion suspended.

According to court proceedings, the offence occurred on October 11, 2025, at around 4pm in Village 2, Nyamukamani, Chiendambuya.

The young victim was walking home from school with a friend when Kapfurutsa approached and attempted to seize one of the boys. 

After failing to grab the first child, he managed to take hold of the complainant and began dragging him toward Nyagadzi River, clearly intending to deprive him of his freedom.

The child struggled to escape but was overpowered. However, as they passed near Nyamukamani gardens, he shouted for help. A woman working in her garden heard the screams and rushed to investigate, prompting Kapfurutsa to release the boy and flee.

The matter was reported to the police, leading to Kapfurutsa’s arrest.
