A 36-year-old man from Chegutu has been sentenced to 100 years in prison after being convicted on 25 counts of unlawful entry, theft, robbery, and rape following a crime spree across Borrowdale and Mt Pleasant in Harare.
Issa Siyabu committed the offenses between November 2021 and January 2024, breaking into properties and stealing valuables, including laptops, mobile phones, cash, and official documents.

He was handed a total sentence of 100 years, with 10 years suspended for five years, and an effective 50-year prison term after the court ordered some sentences to run concurrently.
The court heard that Siyabu’s crimes were particularly brutal. In one instance, he threatened a woman, forcibly undressed her, and raped her before stealing property worth US$750. In another case, he held a complainant at knifepoint and forced her to reveal the location of US$700.
Siyabu was eventually linked to one of the crime scenes through forensic evidence, leading to his arrest. He later cooperated with police investigations and took officers to several crime scenes, demonstrating how he had committed the offenses.
He still faces trial on four additional counts, to which he has pleaded not guilty.
