
A 39-year-old man has appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court in connection with the robbery and murder of prominent businessman Joseph Mutangadura.
The accused, Given Mandizadza, faces multiple charges, including armed robbery, murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, and illegal possession of explosives.
According to the State, led by prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, the incident occurred on August 17, 2025, at Mutangadura’s Hideout Farm, where a gang of seven armed men wearing balaclavas allegedly broke into the farmhouse, fatally shooting Mutangadura and terrorizing his family.

The court heard that the alleged mastermind behind the attack remains at large, while Mandizadza’s accomplices are believed to be on the run.
Mandizadza was remanded in custody and advised to apply for bail at the High Court. He is expected to return to court on November 6, 2025.
In a related development, Mandizadza and his co-accused, Philemon Anesu Machadu, were reportedly found in possession of firearms and explosives during a separate police operation on October 15, 2025.
Police recovered a 7.62 x 25mm Tokarev pistol and other incriminating items from their vehicle.
The case has sparked widespread concern over rising violent crime and security challenges across the country. The court is set to continue hearing evidence and witness testimonies as the case progresses.
