Zimbabwe’s celebrated powerlifting champion, Chido Kerina Maenzanise, has reaffirmed her dominance in the sport after winning the women’s title at the Zambia Strongman Championships in Lusaka over the weekend.

The victory secured her place at the upcoming Africa’s Strongest Championships, where she will represent Zimbabwe among the continent’s elite strength athletes.

This latest triumph adds to her decorated career. Maenzanise, who recently defended her Africa Strong Woman title, now boasts nine gold medals and 26 career achievements, cementing her reputation as one of Africa’s most accomplished female powerlifters.

The Zambia competition tested athletes in grueling events such as maximum deadlift, truck pulls, sandbag loading, yoke carries, and the farmers medley.

True to form, Maenzanise pushed through fatigue, showcasing the resilience and strength that have made her a formidable force on the continental stage.

Speaking about her preparations, Maenzanise revealed her training regime is intensifying ahead of the Africa Strong Woman and Man Championships.

Her early morning sessions are powered by Sia’s hit song Unstoppable—a fitting soundtrack for an athlete breaking barriers in her sport.

“The bench press is my personal favourite. I’m the only woman in Zimbabwe who can handle these weights. No one can beat me when it comes to the bench,” she said, brimming with confidence as she worked through her core lifts of squat, deadlift, and bench press.

At just 29, Maenzanise has emerged as Zimbabwe’s pioneering female powerlifting star, with eight golds, two silvers, and two bronze medals on both national and regional stages.
