ZimNow News Desk

Good news for families in Harare. The City of Harare, working together with ZB Bank and the United Nations Population Fund, has started a new health plan to help poor people get treatment at council clinics.

Mayor Jacob Mafume said the fund will help the poor and those working in the informal sector. UNFPA said it is about giving families hope and a healthier future.

  • To join, you only pay US$1 once to register.
  • Every year you pay US$2.
  • After joining, you will not pay clinic fees at council clinics.

What You Get

  • Clinic visits and medicines
  • Pregnancy care—6check-ups, delivery at council clinics, scans, caesarean if needed, and after-birth care (some small payments may apply)
  • Lab tests and X-rays
  • Membership in wellness clubs at the clinic

Extra Benefit – Funeral Cover

If you want, you can also add funeral insurance for only 50 cents per month, and when a member dies, the family will get US$1,000 cash.

Where It Starts

The program will begin in Mbare and Hopley this year, and later it will go to the rest of Harare.
