Villagers in Sasula and surrounding areas yesterday welcomed the opening of Nkatazo Rural Hospital, a development expected to transform access to healthcare in Zvishavane.

“This hospital has changed our lives. Before, we had to travel many kilometers to access basic health services, but now we have everything close by, including maternity care,” said one villager.

The hospital was constructed through a partnership between the government and development partners, bringing essential services such as maternity care, X-rays, and scans closer to the rural community.

Valley Seeds Chairman, Themba Nkatazo, said the facility was a milestone that would change lives in the district.

“The facility is a milestone achievement, ensuring that even rural communities have access to world-class health services such as maternity care, X-rays, and scans—truly leaving no one and no place behind,” he said.

Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Owen Ncube, said the hospital was proof of how deliberate investments were uplifting rural communities.

“Rural development has become a priority, from roads and clinics to schools and clean water systems, ensuring that the benefits of national growth are felt beyond cities and towns.

"The provision of quality healthcare is a crucial element in uplifting rural communities, and the completion of this hospital matches best international practices,” he said.

He added that devolution was reshaping service delivery across the country by bridging gaps that had disadvantaged rural populations for years.

“The development of Nkatazo Rural Hospital demonstrates how decentralization is bringing meaningful change to rural areas. By ensuring that essential services are established closer to the people, communities are being empowered socially and economically,” he said.

Villagers said the hospital had already brought relief to families who previously walked long distances to seek medical care.
