BENEFICIARIES of the Presidential Empowerment Revolving Fund for Cross-Borders for ED in Masvingo province have applauded the government for its continued support towards boosting small businesses and empowering communities.
Cross-border traders drawn from seven districts of Masvingo under the Cross Borders For ED banner started receiving funding from the Presidential Empowerment Revolving Fund, which was launched in the province early this month.
“I am happy to have received US$500 from the Presidential Empowerment Revolving Fund for Cross Borders for ED to boost my business. I am into selling clothes from Botswana and South Africa, and with this money, I will expand my business. We hope that as we continue to grow as small businesses, we will be able to set up small industries and employ others. We thank our government for recognising us as small businesses, and through this financial support, everyone agrees with me that it will boost our business, hence, we become empowered,” one of the beneficiaries noted.
Guest of honour at the event, Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Ezra Chadzamira, encouraged beneficiaries to work hard and manage the funds responsibly.
“We want to thank Cross Borders for ED for ensuring the funds get to the intended beneficiaries. This is one of the programmes meant to transform people’s lives, hence, we call upon beneficiaries to utilise this opportunity and ensure the programme benefits more people,” he said.
The Cross Borders for ED leadership says they will put in place mechanisms to ensure the funds are put to good use.
“As cross borders, we thank President Emmerson Mnangagwa for the support from his advisor, Dr Paul Tungwarara. We are going to put in place mechanisms to ensure that these funds continue to revolve. Those who benefitted today received between US$200 and US$500, and we, as small traders, are grateful. The broader vision is to be able to acquire machinery, set up businesses, and be able to employ others,” Crossboarders for ED National Chairperson, Cde David Masomere noted.
The Presidential Empowerment Revolving Fund is one of the several empowerment initiatives by the ZANU PF-led government to support entrepreneurs, stimulate local economic growth, and reduce unemployment.
Early this month, ZANU PF affiliates from Masvingo Province received financial support from the Fund to the tune of US$250 000.
