Zimbabwe’s iconic urban grooves legends Mafriq and Trinity are set to perform at the much-anticipated Shoko Festival 2025, taking place on September 26 at Harare Gardens.
As part of the festival’s landmark 15th edition, their appearances promise to be a highlight in celebrating Zimbabwe’s rich urban music legacy.
Mafriq and Trinity are widely credited with shaping the foundation of Zimbabwe’s urban grooves scene, a genre that revolutionised the country’s music landscape in the early 2000s.
Their distinctive sounds, memorable hits, and influential style have made them household names and enduring symbols of Zimbabwean urban culture.
Joining them at Mash Up Nights is legendary producer Take Fizzo, whose groundbreaking work continues to influence contemporary Zimbabwean music. Together, these artists will deliver a nostalgic yet vibrant experience that honors the evolution of the nation’s urban music scene.
Shoko Festival Coordinator, Vera Chisvo, remarked on the significance of their inclusion: “Mafriq and Trinity represent the pioneers who laid the groundwork for Zimbabwe’s modern urban music industry. Their performances are a powerful reminder of the journey and growth we’ve witnessed over the past 15 years.”
In addition to the star-studded lineup, the festival will feature Mashoko Tapes, a collaborative music residency where established and emerging artists create fresh, innovative tracks reflecting the diversity and dynamism of Zimbabwe’s urban music culture.
This year’s residency brings together artists like Segulm, Briza, Paintafresco, Yadis, and Enhle, showcasing a vibrant new generation of talent.
Shoko Festival 2025 embraces the theme #TheLegacyXV, celebrating 15 years of nurturing free expression, youth creativity, and cultural unity through urban art and music.
