Ministry Pushes for Job Creation, Economic Growth Initiatives in Parliament Meeting

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce met with the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, to discuss efforts towards promoting sustained economic growth and job creation. The meeting centered on SDG 8, which aims to promote "sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all."

According to the ministry, key highlights of the discussion included policies and programs aimed at supporting employment opportunities for youth, women, and persons with disabilities. However, challenges hindering progress were also raised, including high borrowing costs, soaring fuel prices, the Impact Mitigation and Transformation Tax (IMTT), and shifts in global demand.

The ministry is pin pointed several key areas to drive economic growth and job creation. These include rural industrialization, the Zimbabwe Reconstruction and Growth Plan, the National Development Strategy 1, the Zimbabwe National Industrial Development Policy, and Community Share Ownership Trusts.

Permanent Secretary Dr. T.U. Wushe outlined the hurdles facing the industry, sparking discussions on sustainable solutions. The ministry's engagement with parliament highlights the government's efforts to address economic challenges and promote inclusive growth.
