Opinion by Tonderai Chidawa
As the President of the Zimbabwe Youth Action Platform (ZYAP), I, Tonderai Chidawa, wish to express our deep concern regarding the recent attempts by certain discredited politicians, notably former Minister Saviour Kasukuwere and Tendai Biti, to drag businessman Reginald Kuda Tagwirei into their political quagmire. These allegations not only distract from substantive issues facing our nation, but they also reflect a desperate attempt to reclaim relevance in the political arena.
Tagwirei exemplifies resilience and entrepreneurial spirit, serving as a beacon of hope for many youth in rural areas. Through his lectures and initiatives, he has illuminated pathways to success for aspiring young entrepreneurs, showcasing how one can start and sustain a successful business. His commitment to educating and empowering the youth is commendable, as he genuinely cares about fostering growth and development within the community.
Furthermore, Cde Tagwirei has garnered respect not just from the youth but also from prominent figures, including President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who acknowledges his efforts to contribute positively to the nation’s development. Unlike the petty political squabbles that appear to characterize the careers of his critics, Tagwirei remains focused on meaningful contributions that align with Zimbabwe’s national development goals.
It is crucial to highlight that Tagwirei has never expressed any desire to pursue the presidency. Instead, his primary aim is to assist in realizing Zimbabwe's Vision 2030, which seeks to elevate the country to an upper-middle-income economy. Unfortunately, as some politicians grapple with their fading influence, they resort to personal attacks on individuals like Tagwirei who are genuinely committed to making a difference.
Moreover, it is ironic for Kasukuwere to make allegations of corruption against others when he himself is often referred to as the ‘Pope of Corruption’ in Zimbabwe. His history raises serious questions about the credibility of his claims. It is imperative that these failed politicians take a hard look in the mirror and reflect on their own past actions before launching unfounded accusations against those striving to uplift the nation.
In conclusion, we urge Kasukuwere and Biti to halt their baseless criticisms and instead redirect their energies toward a collaborative effort aimed at advancing Zimbabwe's progress and prosperity. Our nation needs unity and constructive dialogue to overcome current challenges. Let's work together for a brighter future instead of resorting to divisive tactics that only serve to undermine our collective potential.
