Zimbabwean-born beauty entrepreneur, Tendai Moyo, the visionary founder and CEO of Ruka Hair, has been appointed to the Advisory Board of the British Beauty Council—cementing her status as a formidable force in the global beauty industry and a proud representative of African innovation on the international stage.
Moyo joins a powerful cohort of new board members announced by the Council, which include influential voices such as Laurence Newman (The Beauty Tech Group), Margaret Dabbs OBE, and Krishna Montgomery, among others. The Advisory Board plays a critical role in driving cross-industry campaigns, shaping policy, and providing strategic insight across the Council’s four pillars: Policy & Influence; Trade & Export; Investment, Innovation & Technology; and Talent & Careers.
Her appointment reflects the Council’s commitment to embracing diverse voices as it works to shape the future of beauty in the UK and beyond.
Moyo’s determination to challenge industry norms and advocate for underserved consumers has earned her international acclaim. In 2024, she was a finalist in the Black British Business Awards’ Entrepreneur Rising Star category.
Her brand has already been embraced by global icons, including Nigerian music sensation Tems and tennis legend Serena Williams.
“As a Zimbabwean raised in the UK with potential customers all over the world, my ambition has always been to improve hair standards globally,” she said. “Having built a strong foundation in the UK, we are looking to bring our award-winning products, sustainability practices and superior quality to African markets.”
Her appointment to the British Beauty Council Advisory Board marks yet another major milestone—not only for her personal journey but for Black women everywhere who have long searched for authentic representation and quality in the beauty space.
British Beauty Council CEO Millie Kendall OBE welcomed the appointments, saying: “As the Council continues to grow, it is vital that we tap into the ever-evolving world of leading beauty professionals to ensure we develop our work in line with the true needs of the sector.
"Iam delighted to welcome new members… who will undoubtedly be vital to our continued success in taking beauty to the next level.”
For Moyo, this new role offers a platform to influence change on a broader scale—backed by the same Ubuntu philosophy she holds dear: “I am because we are.”
