A 40-year-old Westgate resident has appeared in court for unlawfully possessing a cache of firearms and ammunition.
Peter Mafuta appeared before Magistrate Ruth Moyo at the Harare Magistrates’ Court, facing charges of unlawful possession of firearms.
He is expected to return to court on June 23.
The State alleges that on May 12, detectives from CID Homicide Harare received a tip-off that Mafuta was in possession of a .303 rifle at his residence.
Acting on the information, detectives proceeded to his home and arrested him.
Mafuta then led the detectives to the recovery of a .303 rifle with serial number 4/7382, a .22 rifle with the same serial number, a 7.62x54mm round, two 7.62x51mm rounds, and a .22 live cartridge.
He failed to produce any licenses authorizing him to possess the firearms and ammunition.
