A 50-year-old man has been arraigned before the courts after allegedly being caught with 10 grams of cocaine valued at US$800.
Russel Ignatius Taiti Karimazondo appeared before magistrate Ruth Moyo at the Harare Magistrates' Courts facing charges of unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.
He is set to return to court on May 7, 2025, for a bail hearing.
Prosecutor Takudzwa Jambawu told the court that on May 2, 2025, police received a tip-off alleging that Karimazondo was in possession of dangerous drugs at Highlands Lodge and Apartments, located at 27 Actrus Road, Highlands, Harare.
Detectives responded to the information and arrived at Room JK of the lodge at approximately 4:30 PM.
Karimazondo, who was wearing a yellow Brazil football jersey and black shorts, was approached by the detectives, who identified themselves and explained their purpose.
He consented to a search, which led to the discovery of a plastic sachet containing a whitish powder in his right shorts pocket. Field tests confirmed the substance to be cocaine.
Karimazondo was arrested and taken to the CID Drugs and Narcotics department for further processing. The cocaine was weighed at approximately 10 grams and is valued at US$800 on the street.
