A 48-year-old man from Overspill, Epworth, has been jailed for 20 years for raping a 14-year-old girl during an all-night church service.
The man was convicted of rape when he appeared before the Harare Regional Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard that on July 11, 2026, the girl attended an all-night church service with her elder sister.
At around 8pm, she went to sleep inside a tent at the church premises.

The accused, who was a fellow church member, allegedly unzipped the tent while she was asleep and raped her before threatening her.
The offence came to light five days later, on July 16, when the girl told her mother what had happened.
Her mother reported the matter to the police, leading to the man’s arrest.
A medical affidavit and the girl’s birth certificate were produced in court as exhibits.
