Electrosales, a subsidiary of Powerspeed, has launched a timber processing factory in Mutare, responding to growing demand in Zimbabwe’s construction industry. The facility, located in the Nyakamete Industrial Area, began operations on March 11. It spans 36,042 square metres, with a factory footprint of 15,226 square metres.
The new venture, Electrosales Timber, is working with several major timber producers including Allied Timbers, Rockpool, Masanga Timbers, Wattle Company, and CICADA Timbers. To manage factory waste, the company has partnered with Eastern Investments, which distributes wood shavings to livestock farmers.
“These collaborations ensure a reliable supply of high-quality raw materials and facilitate seamless distribution of finished products,” the company said.
As part of its expanding timber operations, Electrosales has introduced a trusses division and continues to broaden its retail footprint. Recent developments in Harare include new outlets in Westgate and Cardinal Corner, as well as a new builder’s centre in Pomona targeting bulk construction supply needs.
Despite this momentum, Powerspeed says its growth is being hampered by limited access to long-term capital. The company points to liquidity constraints in local banks and high interest rates stemming from country risk perceptions as major barriers to its expansion goals.
