Zimbabwe has taken a major step toward boosting its diplomatic presence on the global stage, with Cabinet approving a campaign strategy for the country’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term.
Information Minister Jenfan Muswere announced the decision, saying: “Cabinet considered and approved Zimbabwe’s Campaign Strategy on the country’s candidature for a Non-Permanent Seat on the United Nations Security Council for the term 2027–2028.”
The bid has already received endorsements from the Southern African Development Community and the African Union.
The campaign will be officially launched by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in Harare and at the 80th UN General Assembly in New York in September 2025.
Government says the campaign will reinforce Zimbabwe’s commitment to international peace and security while helping to build goodwill on the global stage.
