A daring daylight heist at Sam Levy Complex has exposed a suspected car theft syndicate after CCTV footage captured the suspects in action.

Tinashe Java, 47, of Tiger Road, Ruwa, is at the centre of the scandal and appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts on theft charges. He was remanded in custody.

On March 4, 2025, the complainant, Blessing Mazvaramhaka, parked his AD Van (AGG 1513) at Semi Levy Complex in Borrowdale, leaving US$6,000 stashed between the front seats. While he was inside FBC Bank, Java and his accomplices allegedly tampered with the vehicle’s locking system and vanished with the cash.

One of the suspects, Blessing Kachidza, has already appeared in court, while another, Goodrich Munhumumwe, remains on the run.

Java is also implicated in a separate incident on April 1 involving Shorai Chidemo, a CFI Holdings production manager. The syndicate allegedly opened Chidemo’s Isuzu Double Cab and stole an HP ENVY X360 laptop and iPhone ear pods.

Investigations led police to CCTV footage that captured Java during the commission of the crimes, ultimately sealing his fate.
