Four individuals appeared at the Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court this week facing charges of contravening the Trade Marks Act after being caught transporting nearly 700 bags of counterfeit sugar branded as Huletts.
The suspects, identified as Devine Manzisano, 19, Ashten Rwodzi, 40, Rebecca Hando, 31, and Kudzaishe Karimatsanga, 18, were arrested on December 3, 2025, following a tip-off that led detectives to intercept a DAF CF truck in the Kwekwe industrial area.

The vehicle was reportedly making a delivery at Machingura Wholesale when law enforcement officers discovered 698 bags of sugar, each weighing 20kg, bearing the Huletts trademark. A loss control officer from Tongaat Huletts confirmed that the consignment was counterfeit.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused, who reside in Waterfalls and Chitungwiza, had no authorization from Huletts Private Limited to produce or distribute products under the company’s branding. The seized counterfeit goods were valued at US$14,658.
The case has been remanded to December 19, 2025, for setdown, as authorities continue probing to uncover the wider network behind the operation.
