President Emmerson Mnangagwa today officially opened three innovation centres at the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) where he presided over the institution’s 41st graduation ceremony where a grand total of 6 084 graduands were capped.

Mnangagwa commissioned the National Trans-tech Solutions (Pvt)LTD Vehicle Number Plate Production Plant, which is expected to put up a plant which can produce up to 7 million highly-securitised number plates a year.

The President also opened the UZ International Centre for Surgical Simulation.

The Centre is poised to become a leading continental training hub for laparoscopic surgery, a type of surgical procedure that allows a surgeon to access the inside of the abdomen (tummy) and pelvis without having to make large incisions in the skin.

The President also opened the refurbished University of Zimbabwe (UZ) students’ Bus Terminus.

The terminus was refurbished by students under the Work for Fees Programme, which supports students struggling to raise fees.

Refurbished bus terminus

The bus terminus was designed by students which compromises bathrooms, shops, sheds and seats running on solar with power points that have charging ports.

Work for Fees Programme is an initiative that allows financially challenged students to work at the university during semester breaks to raise their tuition fees.
